Beware of errors

This text explains concepts well for the most part and offers a lot of practical examples to solidify the concepts. However, there are several MAJOR errors throughout the book that could cause a lot of confusion. There are several instances in this book where value ranges are listed as 21.00 to 11.00 and they should actually read -1.0 to +1.0. This is a major oversight. There are a few other errors that create contradictory information, an example is on page 275 in the results section. Readers should beware of these errors and be sure to correct mistakes found while learning the topics. In addition, some terms are not explained very well or no actual definition is given. While discussing it, the author just gives an example and in some cases it is hard to generalize the term based on that example. A new version is set to come out this year and I hope these errors are corrected but I suggest that students scrutinize what they read and question things that don't make sense as the errors have tended to carry over from edition to edition.

Eric Flamholtz is Professor of Human Resource Management and Organizational Behavior in the Anderson Graduate School of Management and a faculty research fellow in the Harold and Pauline Price Center for Entrepreneurial Studies at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). He is also President of Management Systems Consulting Corporation, which he co-founded in 1978.

Yvonne Randle is Vice President of Management Systems Consulting Corporation. She has extensive consulting experience with companies ranging in size from small entrepreneurships to multi-billion dollar enterprises and is a lecturer on executive education programs in the Anderson School of Management, University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA).

Two thumbs up both for MBAs and Ph.Ds

It was quite difficult to find a good book on international financial markets/managements. Since it inevitably involves the concepts such as forward/swap, exchange rate risks, interest parity, balance of payments, and so on, a good book needs to have some rigor in clearly explaining important concepts (a good intro for Ph.Ds) and to contain good introduction to how international financial markets work in reality (wonderful reference for MBAs).

I had an opportunity to read an earlier draft of this book when I took International finance course a few years ago taught by Professor Hodrick himself. The draft did a superb job in explaining the theories and international financial markets at the same time. I'm really glad this has been finally published so that other people outside his classrooms have access to these materials. I got hold of this book today and it seems it's been more polished than the draft I had.

I wish the solution manual could come out together, but I heard it's on the way.

Maybe good content but bad printing if you purchase paperback

I bought this book(paperback) for my finance class. I am not sure about the content because I have not finished studying the subject. But the printing quality of the paperback is soooooo bad. It looks like someone has just copied a book with a copy machine. Especially, I can not clearly recognize charts and examples. I don't think this paperback version is worth $157- compared to hardcopy $187. I should have purchased a hardcopy instead of a paperback.

Creepy ghost story for Grades 3-6

Thanks to our local library, my daughter and I have enjoyed several playaways which are basically all-in-one audiobooks. All one needs is a triple A battery and one is set to go. At our local library, patrons are expected to supply their own batteries and headphones (the latter because of hygiene concerns). They are really small and inconspicuous so that it makes it convenient to slip into a purse, bring it along to the gym or while exercising outdoors & indoors, and also on car trips. Although it is an all-in-one audiobook, the playaway can also be heard via a CD player with the use of an adapter.

The operation of the playaway is simple - one just plugs in earphones, speakers, or a car adapter into the provided jack; press the POWER button, press the play button, and listen! There is a keypad which allows the listener to do one of the following: equalizer, Power button, speed button (choice of 5 speeds), turning volume up, turning volume down, LCD screen which indicates the status and how much battery power is left, reverse button for chapters, play/pause button, and forward chapter button.

I have read several of Mary Downing Hahn's ghost stories and they are mostly well-written and atmospheric. In Wait Till Helen Comes, twelve-year-old Molly and her ten year old brother Michael are unhappy that their summer plans have been ruined by their mom and stepdad's decision to move to the country to devote time to their artistic pursuits. Things are made even more difficult by their seven year old stepsister, Heather, an extremely unhappy little girl who appears to hate Molly, Michael, and their mom. Heather is very possessive of her dad and rebuffs any friendly overtures by Molly's mom.

When the family moves to their new home, Molly is shocked to discover that their new place, an old church, also comes with an old graveyard! Molly senses something is not quite right with the graveyard especially when Heather finds a long-forgotten grave. Molly gets a bad feeling when she sees that the tombstone has the initials HEH, the same as Heather's. Soon after, Heather begins acting very strangely, and Molly thinks that Heather may be haunted by the spirit of a restless ghost who died almost a century ago. The trouble is, no one believes Molly, and the family tensions increase to the point that Molly loses all credibility with her mom and stepdad. When Molly and Michael do some research at the local library, they unearth some unsettling facts about the history of Harper House, the old ruins which has become Heather's favorite haunt. Molly fears that Heather's ghost friend may be a malignant spirit intent on causing all of them harm, but who is going to believe her and help her?

The narration is suitably suspenseful and creates a creepy atmosphere. Molly is a character one can sympathize with, yet her scaredy-cat manner does get annoying at times. The spirit of the girl ghost is well portrayed, as is the character of Heather, a lonely, vulnerable, and deeply disturbed child. This is another atmospheric and suspenseful ghost story from Ms. Hahn.
