I already knew fairly well how to program the TI-83+ family before buying this book, but oh has my knowledge been expanded. With over 300 pages of awesomeness, he didn't miss a thing! Great for anyone wanting to learn how to program a TI-83+/84+, or who want to perfect their skills of TI-Basic!

Perfect for students and professionals who use their calculators often and would like to take more advantage of them. Not only will you learn to program your calculator, but you will also learn programming concepts that will apply to other languages and platforms. Overall, great book.

Christopher is an authority on programming calculators from Texas Instruments. He writes for the beginners and for the advanced users. I've gotten a lot of interesting and useful knowledge about these wonderful equipment. And also I took ideas for programming the other great family of Texas Instruments, 89s, 92 Plus and Voyage 200.
I really appreciate this purchase because the content is very useful to me and because I got two books for the same price, the printed one and the electronic one. Yes, if you buy the printed book, you get a code to download the ebook from the publisher, for use it permanently.

Their message, It Gets Better, turned into a popular movement, inspiring thousands of user-created videos on the Internet. Savage's project targeted people of all races, backgrounds and colors, but Boykin has created something special "for colored boys." The new book, For Colored Boys, addresses longstanding issues of sexual abuse, suicide, HIV/AIDS, racism, and homophobia in the African American and Latino communities, and more specifically among young gay men of color. The book tells stories of real people coming of age, coming out, dealing with religion and spirituality, seeking love and relationships, finding their own identity in or out of the LGBT community, and creating their own sense of political empowerment. Keith Boykin is a popular TV commentator, inspirational speaker, and New York Times best-selling author. Keith has provided political commentary for CNN, MSNBC, and CNBC, and he previously co-hosted the weekly TV series "My Two Cents" on BET Networks.

Educated at Dartmouth and Harvard, Keith attended law school with President Barack Obama and served in the White House as a special assistant to President Bill Clinton, where he helped organize and participated in the nation's first ever meeting between a sitting president and leaders of the LGBT community.

A founder and first board president of the National Black Justice Coalition, Keith has spoken to audiences, large and small, all across the world. Something For Everyone

There are young gay men of color out there dealing with loneliness, isolation, fear, self-esteem, family, suicidal thoughts, coming out, seeking love, identity, health, spirituality, etc. If you fall into any of those categories, this book is for you. I am one of the many colored boys who dealt with all of the things that this book addresses. I must note that this book isn't only for boys. Everyone will take away insight into the experiences of gay men of color, food for thought, and powerful life lessons from reading this book. There is something in it for everyone.

"For Colored Boys" is a collection of essays from various authors about their life experiences. These authors deserve to be commended for the extraordinary courage with which they share their deeply personal stories. Keith Boykin has not left any rock unturned. You will read about how one colored boy ended up homeless going through garbage for food. You will read about how another colored boy was raped by a stranger through seeking love in the wrong place. You will read about how another colored boy who is a preacher's kid reconciled his faith and sexuality. The miraculous and promising thing about every story that you will read is the fact that these authors survived their circumstances to tell their story. I assure you that you will draw encouragement and strength from at least one story. I know I did.

My favorites are "Chicago" by Phill Branch, "No Asians, Blacks, Fats, or Femmes" by Indie Harper and "Religious Zombies" by Clay Cane. Little did I know when I received my copy of this book that its pages would end up highlighted all over like my Bible. I see myself revisiting and turning to this book when I need a reminder that I'm not alone and when I need inspiration. Much thanks to Boykin and all those who contributed to the book. There is no doubt in my mind that you all have saved at least one life with your work.

A Book That Will Wake You Up

If you know little or nothing of the African American gay experience this is the best book I can imagine to start with. I not only learned from this book, but it also opened up in me a compassion for black gays who suffer far more agony than their white counterparts for just trying to be who they are. Although we need more good literature on this poignant topic this book is a great begining.

Very moving book-- reccomend for decent straight, white folk

If you have an interest in the subject matter read this book. If you have no interest in the subject matter read this book -- you will learn about other people and get a little insight into what shapes their lives. Knowing or reading about people different from you will give you a lot of understanding. This understanding my prevent you from being the person at the office saying a bunch of really stupid stuff, thinking you are funny when you are really being very offensive. Don't get me wrong--I love work-place humor and bigots will be bigots-- I'm talking about the people that do not realize they are being offensive and would be horrified to know they are. OK this review got way off -subject. Or did it?

Management consultant and lecturer Roam begins with a watershed moment: asked, at the last minute, to give a talk to top government officials, he sketched a diagram on a napkin. How ironic

Like many books, "Back of the Napkin" seems to have begun with a brilliant very short concept that someone (correctly) thought would sell like hotcakes if padded out into a full-length book. The author really does present significant insights, but the irony is that they would have been best summarized literally on the back of a napkin, rather than dragging them out into full book form. So it reads like a 300-slide PowerPoint presentation advocating brevity.

The sequel, "Unfolding the Napkin" (which I also read) is better thought out, serves more as a method, and contains more visual examples - but it still rehashes pretty much the same material as the first book in order to make its point, so reading both books was redundant in my opinion.

Skip powerpoint presentations, this is the way to go!

I recently read a book (The three value conversations) that outlined approaches to showing people/organisations (your customers) value by creating, elevating and then capturing it. It delved into the world of powerpoint presentations and how we cannot have effective conversations. Our audience essentially takes in the start of the presentation and some part of the end; the middle is essentially forgotten.

Back of the Napkin is the "how" and "why" of communicating with your customer, team or prospect. As the title suggests it is a very visual book with many images, acronyms and approaches on how to draw and have a conversation versus death by powerpoint. By traversing through the 6 "W" questions (i.e. What, Who, When, Why, Where and How), Dan Roam provides a stock set of templates on how to visualise this to provide impact in your conversation. Very well worth a read!

Three key takeaways from the book:
1. People like seeing other people’s pictures. In most presentation situations, audiences respond better to hand-drawn images (however crudely drawn) than to polished graphics; as long as you're credible that is
2. Look, see, imagine and show is the four step process to getting visual. You don't need to be a phenomenal drawer because there are templated approaches for any situation
3. Visual thinking is where it is at. We need to take advantage of our innate ability to see both with our eyes and our mind's eyes.

Should follow its own advice but don't let that stop you from getting a useful book

Using the principles of the book - keep it short. The book has 3 basic premises: (a) the RIGHT picture is worth a thousand words and (b) there are only a few basic picture types. Match the right picture to the right situation and you have powerful communications that can make the sale before losing the audience. The book does show you how to do this, and how to think about it. However, the book overthinks itself and could be better for following its own advice!

Longer, more traditional review.

Based perhaps on the simplicity of the title, some reviewers have expressed disappointment that this book does not provide a simple silver bullet than can turn chaos into strategic plans and market dominance, all in the space of a paper napkin. True, it does not do that. What it does provide is a bundle of silver bullets that attack specific problem types -- and then a whole bundle of "user's manuals", one for each type of bullet and each way you could use it, and that does create levels of complexity that defy the original premise.

The book sets up the basic frameworks (the types of story that need to be told and the ways in which those can be depicted). The author then creates a matrix (codex) of those combinations - well, OK, we can live with that ... But then we add another level of elaboration for each of the axes of the matrix. That is where it gets pretty complicated in there. To some extent one wonders whether this extra throw-weight comes from an effort to create a "serious" book rather than "powerful business presentations for dummies". The parcel of extra pages actually are useful once you get past the point of saying "well, yeah" to the basic premises, and once you wade through them carefully and long enough. Of course that is the anti-thesis of the original idea! That could put you off the whole project, but it would also be a mistake.

The book's themes and illustrations will definitely help you think about what message you are trying to sell to whom. In narrowing down your presentation to a few proven themes you will definitely force yourself to separate the essence from the "cool graphics" or the "tons to words to convince you that I really have spent a lot of time thinking about this". The truth is that if you have not convinced someone of your position, saying more of the same thing isn't going to convince them either; you need to say something that appeals to their understanding of the world. For the most part, a briefing is supposed to be short (hence "brief"), not a battle of attrition. You want a head-nod because people agree with you, not because they are going to sleep. The approaches laid out in this book will help you get positive buy-in rather than sleepy acquiescence, and in the end that will have lasting impacts.

Buy it, use it. Use the principles and frameworks. As you get familiar with them, the additional drill-downs will become clearer.

Very readable and informative

I'm using this book as a text book for Greek Art and Archaeology. The price was great the condition superb and the book is very informative without talking over your head.

Not well written.

Pedley writes very ambiguously and leaves out a lot of major details. It is also very difficult to follow his writing because he jumps for topic to topic so quickly. I would only recommend this book in the context of a college course because otherwise you lose a great deal of information.

This book arrived with the last few pages cut through and the back cover partially cut through. I wanted to make sure that this was recorded so that I was not charged for this damage when I returned the book.
